Got used to seeing Rolex present all those masterpieces? Still, people admit that they’ve never got enough of the artwork by Rolex. And the world then saw the first Datejust in 1945. Time may have long ago effaced many other things this old, yet it never can take away the fascination and elegance that this legendary watch radiates.

The Rolex Datejust, the first wristwatch to display the date on the dial, got the unique magnifying Cyclops eye several years later, which afterwards became a Rolex design standard.

How the legend started:

1945 – The first Datejust came out with waterproofness, streamlined elegance and date aperture on the face of the watch.

1947 – To commemorate the brand’s 100,000th officially certified chronometer, Hans Wilsdorf, one of the founders, presented that selfsame Datejust to a gentleman he considered as one of the greatest persons of the age. This mystery man’s identity has never yet been revealed.

1955 – The date-change mechanism became instantaneous, and better legibility of the date aperture was assured by a Cyclops lens magnifying the date by 2.5 times. And this later became an iconic Rolex design.

2009 – A new 41mm two-tone Rolex Datejust II was released at Baselworld 2009, with green theme Roman numerals and the baton marker at 9 o’clock, as well as luminescent hands.

Rolesor: Rolex registered the association of gold and steel in 1933 under the name ‘Rolesor’. The year 1948 saw the first Oyster Perpetual Datejust in Rolesor and its immediate success.
